Canon ScanFile Version 7

ScanFile is a powerful yet user-friendly Document Management System that provides a user with their documents, in their entirety, as a virtual archive. Any type of file can be stored within ScanFile, and users have access to all documents from their network workstation and can process tasks using conventional desktop applications. ScanFile provides all the tools necessary for capturing and indexing documents, and allocating appropriate access rights.

Networkability

Efficient access to documents is vital to all companies. ScanFile allows multi users to store and access documents on the system, enabling them to work with information simply and efficiently from the convenience of their desktop.

Compatibility

Storing scanned documents as either Group 4 TIFF or JPG files allows many other software packages to use the documents stored by ScanFile. For large storage capabilities, ScanFile is able to retrieve images from a range of mass storage devices. ScanFile also supports Canon's range of document management and microfilm scanners.

Flexibility

ScanFile's modular build allows tailor made solutions to be built for specific application requirements. Flexibility is significantly enhanced with options for COLD, barcode and OCR indexing, Document Routing, Audit Trails, Forms Recognition complimented by WebServer and Remote Station capabilities. Electronic document support allows users to store any Windows based document format, including word processed documents (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), e-mail, voice mail, move files and audio files in to a Scanfile folder.

The History of Scanfile (Dieter Spielberg Document Management Systems GmbH) The Dieter Spielberg Document Management Systems GmbH organisation goes back over 30 years. At that time Dieter Spielberg saw a business opportunity when IBM stopped production of their punch card machines. With the support of other IBM technicians he founded a business to refurbished and support these units within Germany's heavy production industry. Out of this was developed a special expertise in interfacing with data management systems.

It was this aspect that began the long relationship with the Canon organisation, originally producing drivers and record management applications that promoted the regional sales of Canon microfilm equipment. The appearance of the first Canon microfilm scanner/digitiser in 1989 was the starting point for a most remarkable specialisation in the management of digital data.

The Dieter Spielberg Document Management GmbH team began work on Scanfile on the back of applications introduced to assist sales of the proprietary Canofile desktop filing solution. The Scanfile record management solution, now in its fifth generation, has grown to encompass all middle market expectations. Such is the scope of Scanfile that it can be scaled to meet the needs of corporate enterprises right down to small businesses. Meanwhile, remaining true to the old legacy, all Canon document and microfilm imaging scanners are covered by specialised drivers, which are optimised for speed and precise control.

This close relationship has given rise to an ever-growing international network of distributors and re-sellers, most of who are closely tied in with the Canon organisation. As a result Scanfile is currently available in a number of languages. At this time, these include English, French, German, Dutch, Japanese and both Chinese "Traditional" and Chinese "Simplified". Others are being considered as international demand grows.

In order to properly support such diverse interest in the Dieter Spielberg Document Management Systems GmbH applications an international marketing and technical support office, Scanfile International Limited, was established in mid-1998. Former senior long serving Canon members respectively head the marketing and support disciplines.
